Working perfectly as expected, heats up a little bit under heavy stress, but perfectly manageable, doesn’t seem to affect performance. Benchmarking gives me around 5500 MB/s file read/write.
Shipping was also fast, thanks a lot.
If you are reading this then you are probably seriously considering the Envoy Ultra. You have probably read a few reviews and maybe watched a couple of YouTube reviews.
Here’s my actual use review (rather than the here’s a review unit keep it for a day or two then send it back kind of review).
I have the M4 MBP Pro version. 1TB and also the OWC TB5 Dock. The envoy Ultra is connected directly to the MBP
For comparison I also have an M1 Mac Studio Max 32GB/1 TB version) with a number of TB3/USB4 enclosures by Acacis, Inateck and Tekq
The ultra is in a different league, in terms of design, build, speed and cooling.
It gets warm but never hot (my Inateck enclosures get extremely hot even when idling).
Speed wise, you will see over 5000MBps in both read and write with the included stick of NVME.
Design wise, it looks great next to my Space black MBP and black Magic Trackpad and Logitech Mini KB (space grey).
Reliability wise - No issues
The TB5 cable - Its replaceable despite what you may read, if you carefully pry the rubber strips fro the bottom 4x T6 (from memory) **** heads are exposed and you can open the case, the TB5 cable is retained by a rubber grommet and is easily replaceable.
Hold on then, does that mean I can add a different stick of NVME? :) Well yes it does providing you are happy with invalidating your warranty. I put in a 4TB Samsung 990 PRO (not plus they are different) and am hitting 5900+ on both read and write with no increase in temperatures. And I didn’t think that would feel significantly faster than my TB3/USB 4 enclosures (each of which has either very fast Kingston Fury or Hynix p41 Platinum BVME 2TB)
The envoy ultra is therefore highly recommended, and its be honest significantly cheaper than adding an extra 2/4TB with Apple and you will get similar speeds .
What are you waiting for, if you feel the need, the need for speed, then enter your credit card details
Fast T5 ssd. On my macbook gets to about 5500MB/s which is impressive. Body gets slightly warm but not hot. Well made. Glad to see cable will be user updatable.
Thank you. Great product, great service.
