Product Description
Some data simply cannot afford to fall into the wrong hands. The DataLocker Sentry 5 is a hardware-encrypted USB flash drive built for organisations that treat data security as a hard requirement, not a preference. FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validated, assembled in the USA, and TAA compliant, it meets the strictest government, healthcare, and financial sector standards out of the box — with no software encryption to misconfigure and no trust placed in the host system.
Every byte written to the Sentry 5 is protected by AES 256-bit XTS hardware encryption running entirely within the drive. The host computer never touches unencrypted data. Lose the drive and the data is safe — full stop.

The Sentry 5 is exclusively managed through DataLocker's SafeConsole platform (sold separately), giving IT administrators centralised control over every device in the fleet. From enforcing password complexity and smart card-only authentication policies to triggering remote wipes and pulling full audit logs, SafeConsole turns a collection of secure drives into a properly governed endpoint security programme. Zero-Touch Deployment is also available, making large-scale rollouts manageable without physical handling of each device.
Physically, this drive is built to last in the field. The solid zinc chassis is encapsulated in tamper-resistant epoxy — any attempt to open the casing destroys the electronics. IP68 certification means it survives full submersion to 2 metres, and MIL-STD-810F covers the drops, shocks, and vibration that happen in real working environments. This is not a consumer USB stick with a security badge — it is a purpose-built security device.
Compliance-wise, the Sentry 5 satisfies CMMC, HIPAA, GDPR, NIS2, SOC2, SOX, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, and NIST 800-171 requirements, making it a credible answer to auditors across government, defence, finance, and healthcare.

Does the Sentry 5 work without SafeConsole?
The Sentry 5 is a managed-only device (the -M suffix on every SKU), which means SafeConsole is required for initial setup and ongoing management. SafeConsole is sold separately as a SaaS or On-Premises licence. The drive ships ready for SafeConsole enrolment — contact DataLocker or your reseller for licensing options.
What happens if I forget my password?
With SafeConsole, an administrator can perform a remote password reset without accessing the physical device. Without SafeConsole, a forgotten password cannot be recovered — the drive will cryptographically erase all data after 10 failed attempts. This is intentional: it means nobody can brute-force their way in, including the manufacturer.
Is the Sentry 5 compliant with UK government and public sector requirements?
Yes. The Sentry 5 carries FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation (the gold standard for cryptographic modules), is TAA compliant with a NATO-trusted supply chain, and meets GDPR, NIS2, and NCSC guidance for encrypted removable media. It also holds UKCA certification for the UK market. For public sector procurement, the combination of FIPS validation and SafeConsole audit logging satisfies most audit and accreditation requirements.
Can the Sentry 5 be used in read-only mode?
Yes. Read-Only Mode can be enabled via SafeConsole policy or by the user, depending on the organisation's configuration. In this mode, data can be read from the drive but nothing can be written to it — effectively preventing ransomware, accidental overwrites, and unauthorised data exfiltration in shared environments.
What is the difference between the Sentry 5 and a standard encrypted USB drive?
Standard encrypted drives typically use software-based encryption, which relies on the host computer and can be bypassed if the OS is compromised. The Sentry 5 uses hardware-based AES 256-bit XTS encryption validated to FIPS 140-3 Level 3 — the encryption happens entirely inside the drive, independent of the host. Combined with digitally signed firmware (immune to BadUSB), tamper-resistant epoxy casing, brute-force crypto erase, and centralised SafeConsole management, the Sentry 5 is in a completely different category to consumer or prosumer encrypted drives.
