Q: Which tape drives are compatible with this cartridge?
A: The LTO-8 cartridge is designed for LTO-8 tape drives and is also readable and writable on LTO-9 drives (one generation back is fully supported per the LTO standard). It is not compatible with LTO-7 or earlier drives, nor with LTO-10 drives (which support only LTO-9 as the backward-compatible generation). Always confirm your drive generation before ordering.
Q: What is the difference between native and compressed capacity?
A: Native capacity (12TB) is the raw, uncompressed storage. Compressed capacity (30TB) assumes a 2.5:1 compression ratio — a standard LTO benchmark. In practice, already-compressed data (video files, encrypted backups, ZIP archives) will achieve minimal additional compression, so native capacity is the reliable figure for planning purposes.
