The iStorage diskAshur M2 is the world's smallest, lightest and most rugged FIPS-compliant hardware-encrypted portable SSD. It packs military-grade AES-XTS 256-bit encryption, a full onboard PIN keypad, and an IP68-rated rugged shell into a form factor barely bigger than a USB stick — small enough to sit in your palm, tough enough to survive a 4-metre drop onto concrete or the weight of a 2.7-tonne vehicle driving over it.
Unlike software-based encryption solutions, the diskAshur M2 requires no drivers, no software and no cloud account. Enter your 7-15 digit PIN directly on the onboard keypad and the drive unlocks instantly. Unplug it and every byte is locked behind AES-XTS 256-bit full-disk hardware encryption. The Common Criteria EAL 5+ certified secure microprocessor generates true random encryption keys and defends against physical side-channel attacks — SPA, DPA, SEMA and DEMA — without you lifting a finger.
The M2 brings something genuinely new to the encrypted drive category: quantum-resistant security architecture. The cryptographic module is built entirely around symmetric encryption, with no RSA or ECC asymmetric algorithms — the ones known to be vulnerable to future quantum computing attacks. Is this compatible with my Mac or PC?
Yes — the diskAshur M2 is completely OS and host independent. It works with MS Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, Thin Clients, Zero Clients, Embedded Systems, Citrix and VMware. No software or drivers need to be installed. It will work on any device with a USB port — including tablets and smartphones with USB OTG support.
What happens if I forget my PIN?
If you have set up an Admin PIN, it can be used to unlock the drive and assign a new User PIN without losing data. The Admin can also configure a one-time User recovery PIN for exactly this situation. If no Admin PIN was set and the User PIN is entered incorrectly 10 consecutive times, the User PIN is deleted and only the Admin PIN or recovery PIN can unlock the drive. If the Admin PIN is entered incorrectly 10 consecutive times, all data, PINs and the encrypted encryption key are permanently deleted.
How does brute force protection work?
The diskAshur M2 tracks consecutive incorrect PIN entries. After 10 wrong User PIN attempts, the User PIN is deleted — but data remains accessible via the Admin PIN or one-time recovery PIN. The Admin can configure this threshold from 1-10 attempts for User PINs. If the Admin PIN itself is entered incorrectly 10 consecutive times, the drive permanently wipes all data, all PINs and the encrypted encryption key and resets to factory state. The drive can then be redeployed with a new encryption key.
What does the self-destruct PIN do?
The Admin can pre-program a self-destruct PIN. If this PIN is entered, the drive immediately and permanently deletes all data, the encrypted encryption key and all PINs — rendering the data unrecoverable. This is designed for high-security environments where a drive must be neutralised quickly if at risk of seizure or theft. The drive can be redeployed with a new encryption key afterwards.
Is the diskAshur M2 truly waterproof?
Yes — it is IP68 rated, meaning it can survive being submerged in 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes. It is also fully dustproof and sandproof. Combined with its shockproof (4m drop) and crushproof (2.7-tonne vehicle) design, it is one of the most physically rugged encrypted drives available anywhere.
