Product Description
The Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro is the top of the HDMI capture range — the device you reach for when 4K30 isn't fast enough. Using USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps), it doubles the available bandwidth over standard USB 3.0, enabling 4K60 capture at full 4:4:4 colour. For live production teams, broadcast engineers, and professional content creators who need the absolute maximum from an HDMI capture device, this is it.
The 4K Pro shares the same 600MHz HDMI 2.0 receiver and ~700 Mpixels/s FPGA processing engine, but the USB connection is fundamentally different. While the 4K Plus tops out at 4K30 due to USB 3.0 bandwidth limits, the 4K Pro's USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface provides enough headroom for 4096x2160 at 60fps — capturing what you see on screen without any frame rate compromise. It includes both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables, plus an HDMI cable, so you can connect to modern USB-C ports or legacy USB-A hosts.
Same plug-and-play driver-free operation. Same broad software compatibility. Same HDMI loop-through. Just no compromise on capture frame rate.

Product Q&A
Q: What is the difference between the HDMI 4K Plus and the HDMI 4K Pro?
A: The 4K Pro uses USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps) instead of USB 3.0 (5Gbps). This doubles the available bandwidth, enabling 4K60 capture output versus the 4K Plus's 4K30 limit. If you need to capture 4K at 60fps — for high-frame-rate live events, esports, or broadcast production — the 4K Pro is the only choice in this range. For 4K30 or lower frame rates, the 4K Plus is fully sufficient and more affordable.
Q: Does my computer need a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port to use this?
A: For 4K60 capture, yes — you need a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port (Thunderbolt 3/4 ports also work, as they are backwards compatible). If connected to a standard USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 port, the device will still work but capture frame rate will be limited, similar to the 4K Plus. Most modern Mac and PC laptops from 2021 onwards have Thunderbolt/USB 3.2 ports.
Q: Does it work with Apple Silicon Macs?
A: Yes. Fully compatible with all Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4) on macOS 10.12 and above. No drivers needed — recognised natively via AVCaptureSession.
Q: Is the HDMI loop-through also at 4K60?
A: Yes. The HDMI loop-through passes the full 4096x2160 @ 60fps 4:4:4 signal to your display — identical to the input. There is no quality loss through the loop-through.
Q: Does it require external power?
A: No. The 4K Pro is bus-powered via USB, drawing approximately 7.2W. No external power supply is required.
