It's the entry point into Magewell's SDI capture range — smaller, lighter, and more affordable than the SDI Plus, built for anyone who needs reliable SDI-to-USB capture without paying for features they won't use.
Connect any SD-SDI, HD-SDI, or 3G-SDI source — broadcast cameras, production switchers, distribution amps — via the locking BNC connector, and the signal is recognised instantly on Windows, macOS, Linux or Chrome OS. No drivers, no install, no fuss. SDI's biggest advantage over HDMI is reach: this device supports cable runs up to 150m at 3G-SDI, so you're not limited to a few metres like a typical HDMI lead.
All video and audio processing happens on the onboard FPGA, not your CPU, so capture is smooth even on modest machines. Bus-powered entirely over USB 3.0 (backward compatible with USB 2.0), it's genuinely plug-and-play with OBS Studio, Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams, VLC, QuickTime and any other DirectShow/V4L2/AVCaptureSession-based software.

A: The SDI Gen 2 is Magewell's entry-level SDI capture device — smaller, lighter, and without the 3.5mm audio line I/O or BNC loop-through of the SDI Plus. If you just need to get an SDI signal into your computer, the Gen 2 covers it. If you need loop-through to a monitor or mixed analog/embedded audio, step up to the SDI Plus.
Q: Does this support 4K SDI capture?
A: No. Maximum input resolution is 2048x1080 (2K) via 3G-SDI. For 12G-SDI 4K capture, you'd need the USB Capture SDI 4K Pro.
Q: Is it compatible with Mac?
A: Yes. Fully driver-free on macOS 10.9 and above, including Apple Silicon Macs, via AVCaptureSession.
Q: Does it need external power?
