OWC's intelligent PCIe bandwidth allocation gives each drive up to four dedicated lanes via an advanced switch — all sixteen PCIe 4.0 lanes distributed dynamically across eight drives. No bottlenecking, no lane sharing, no artificial limits. Supports single- and double-sided M.2 2280 "M Key" NVMe drives, so you're not locked into one configuration as capacities grow.
SoftRAID Premium is included — three years of access, licensed per computer, with the serial number printed right on the back of the card. RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, and 1+0 on Mac. RAID 0 and 1 on Windows. Which Mac Pro models is this compatible with?
The Accelsior 8M2 is compatible with Mac Pro (Late 2019) and Mac Pro (2023 — M2 Ultra). It requires a PCIe x16 slot and macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later. M1 Macs using the card inside a Thunderbolt PCIe expansion chassis require macOS 11.3 or later. It is also compatible with Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 in a compatible PC tower.
Does it come with SSDs already installed?
Yes — this listing is for the card with OWC Aura Ultra IV PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2280 SSDs already installed. The number and size of SSDs depends on the capacity you choose: 8TB = 8×1TB, 16TB = 8×2TB, 32TB = 8×4TB, 64TB = 8×8TB. If you'd prefer to supply your own SSDs, we also stock the bare Accelsior 8M2 card without drives.
What RAID levels are supported?
On Mac, SoftRAID Premium supports RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, and 1+0. On Windows, RAID 0 and RAID 1 are available. SoftRAID works with macOS 10.14 or later and Windows 10 or later (Windows Server 2019+). Your purchase includes 3 years of SoftRAID Premium access. You can also use the free SoftRAID Standard for basic volume access without RAID management.
Can I use this in a Thunderbolt expansion chassis?
Yes — the Accelsior 8M2 works in Thunderbolt PCIe expansion chassis such as the OWC Helios 3 or AKiTiO Node. Performance will be limited by the Thunderbolt bandwidth rather than the full PCIe 4.0 x16 spec, but you'll still see impressive speeds for external NVMe storage. On Mac, Thunderbolt usage requires macOS 11.3 or later with Apple Silicon.
Is there anything I need to do before installing?
Yes — before installing the card in your system, write down the SoftRAID serial number printed on the back of the PCIe card. You'll need it to activate SoftRAID. Once the card is seated, install the SoftRAID application and enter the serial number to unlock Premium access. Performance will vary based on SSDs used, CPU speed, RAID configuration, and PCIe slot version.
