- Use of a 2.5-inch SSD in a 3.5-inch drive bay requires an adapter bracket such as the NewerTech AdaptaDrive: here
- Use of any SSD in an external enclosure is dependent on the power available from the enclosure: OWC Mercury Electra 6G and Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSDs are engineered for use in any OWC Enclosure that supports 2.5-inch SSDs.
- Special Note: For specific 2009 iMacs, 2008-2010 MacBooks, 2008-2009 MacBook Pros, and 2009 Mac mini models, we highly recommend using a SATA 2.0 (3Gb/s) SSD, such as the OWC Mercury Electra 3G.
- Recommended Models:
- iMac Models: iMac9,1, iMac10,1, iMac11,1
- MacBook Models: MacBook5,1, MacBook5,2, MacBook6,1, MacBook7,1
- MacBook Pro Models: MacBookPro5,1, MacBookPro5,2, MacBookPro5,3, MacBookPro5,4, MacBookPro5,5
- Mac mini Models: Macmini3,1, Macmini4,1
- Performance Note: While a 6G SSD functions in these models, it will only operate at SATA Revision 1.0 (1.5Gb/s, 150MB/s) speeds, rather than the full SATA Revision 2.0 (3.0Gb/s, 300MB/s) speed these computers can support. The OWC Mercury Electra 3G SSD is the recommended upgrade to achieve optimal performance.
- Compatibility: The OWC SSD Mercury Electra 6G Model is compatible with almost any Mac or PC model with a Serial ATA connection (SATA, SATA 2.0, or SATA 3.0). Compatible MacBook Pro models include:

Delivery in good time. A day later I ordered the cable to go with it and they both arrived a day later... superb.
Has improved the performance of my MPro so well worth the effort. Apple certainly don’t make it easy for an amateur to change items within the MPro.
After reading a number of articles to Speed up my Mac Pro 1.1 it recommended that one should buy a OWC SSD drive Mercury Electra 6G. Really fast drive. I bought one online from Flexx Memory, great value, very fast service ordered the previous morning, came the next day, what a service. I can highly recommend this company and will purchase from them again.

Swapped a 2011 SATA drive for this unit. OMG! Our iMac has gone from banger racing performance to formula 1!
