Does this work with any iPhone, or only the iPhone 16 Pro?
The MagSafe attachment is compatible with any MagSafe-enabled iPhone. However, the 4K 120fps ProRes external recording feature is specific to the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max — Apple only enabled external ProRes recording at that resolution on those models. For USB4 speeds (4,000 MB/s), you'll also need a device with a USB4 port, which on iPhones starts with the iPhone 15 Pro. Earlier iPhones with USB-C (iPhone 15 standard) use USB 3 speeds and won't hit the full spec.
Does the MagSafe attachment charge the iPhone?
No. The MagSafe on the Wise i4 is mechanical only — it holds the drive against the back of your iPhone during shooting. It does not have a charging coil and will not charge your phone. The SSD is bus-powered by the USB-C connection, not by the MagSafe magnet.
Will the magnet damage my iPhone data?
No. Your iPhone stores data on NAND flash memory chips, not magnetic platters. Magnets cannot affect flash storage. This is a common concern but there is no risk to your data from the MagSafe magnet on this drive.
Can I use this with a camera other than an iPhone?
Yes — the Wise i4 connects via USB-C/USB4 and works as a standard external SSD with any device that has a compatible USB-C port. MagSafe attachment is iPhone-specific, but the drive itself is not. Check your camera manufacturer's documentation for external recording compatibility. For Mac, it works at full USB4 speeds on M-series Macs with USB4 ports.
How does this compare to a regular portable SSD?
The key differences are the USB4 interface and the MagSafe integration. Most portable SSDs use USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps theoretical, ~1,000 MB/s real-world). The Wise i4 uses USB4 (40 Gbps), which is why it can sustain 700 MB/s minimum write — that's the sustained throughput needed for uninterrupted 4K 120fps ProRes. The MagSafe mount is purpose-built for iPhone shooting workflows. If you just need a fast external drive for a Mac, this works brilliantly for that too.
